"We love to indulge in sweet, sweet moments with our loved ones from time to time. Strolling through Valenciennes' historic shopping districts does us so much good... "

Handcrafted & crunchy 1. Rue de la vieille poissonnerie

Did you know that at no. 33 you’ll find a boutique of local designers made in Hauts-de-France? No need to push open the doors, Nicolas Chiarelli opens them wide, just like his generosity.
The only one of its kind in town, this cosy, trendy boutique has been packed ever since it opened in 2019. Here, you’ll find objects and items with an eco-responsible ethic. Restored antique furniture, diverted driftwood objects, plant or paper paintings, recycled fabric (wipes, scarves), lithotherapy jewelry…it’s THE place to come to buy an original, unique gift for all tastes and tastes! Follow Julien’s lead and fall for one of our handcrafted candles with the scent of Grasse! Escape begins in this boutique…and don’t forget the new Chez Annette tea room to discover on site!

And don’t miss the delicious chocolate treats from his neighbor’s Bonbons Caramel & Chocolat , just a stone’s throw away. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the artisans in action in their workshop behind the glass!

Fashionista & arty 2. Rue de Famars

Welcome to the old street that once led to Cambrai, and take a stroll along the city’s only cobblestone streets. Ophélie and Julien love to contemplate the ” Scaldian house ” overlooking this pedestrian street, one of only three still existing in Valenciennes.

Another stop-off to delight your taste buds is La Gourmandine, with its famous Sottises and Carpeaux cake. Treat yourself like our two epicureans Ophélie and Julien.

Ladies fashionistas, between Les petites merveilleuses By Cath, Scusa or Les Pipelettes, you’ll find plenty to renew your wardrobe in these concept stores!
Window shopping is “a girl thing”, isn’t it? As it will be written on a purse. But that’s not all! Gentlemen, if you want to surprise your other half during this urban escapade, head for Sébastien’s at n°73.
An artisan jeweler, he creates one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, wedding rings, solitaires and more. He truly has “golden hands”, and his artisan friends on the street (L’atelier Palissandre, L’Atelier du Doreur) won’t disagree. You’ll see that he’s a gem, and he sparkles in his art!

I loved these little boutiques with their colorful seasonal pieces! The welcome is really warm too! What a moment of pleasure!

Charming & picturesque 3. The Wantiers district

What if we were to tell you that this area was already very commercial in the Middle Ages? Imagine the presence of old brick and wood-sided shops. Stop for a moment to admire the outdoor floral decorations of the “Bar à Styles”. Original and girly, isn’t it?
Follow Ophélie’s lead and enter this charming little boutique not far from the Basilica of Notre-Dame du Saint-Cordon, and get ready for your fittings!
Immortalize a romantic selfie in front of the ” Maison espagnole “, the town’s second “Scaldian house”, once home to the tourist office…

Surprising & lively 4. Place d'Armes and the heart of the town

If you feel like it, walk through the Place d’Armes shopping center to the square of the same name. You’ll come face to face with the steel sculpture ” La Valenciennes ” by Jean-Bernard Métais, the symbol of the former
belfry. It makes you dizzy, doesn’t it? Let yourself be charmed by this square, now entirely pedestrianized again, with its many stores, brasseries and terraces, not forgetting the monumental Hôtel de-Ville. (Re)immerse yourself in its urban and dynamic downtown atmosphere.

Looking for a well-deserved break? Ophélie and Julien have a new favorite address for you. You’ll see that the city never ceases to surprise and has many hidden bucolic spots…

Romantic & Latin 5. Saint-Nicolas district

Head up Rue de Paris, the longest street in Valenciennes. Ophélie and Julien invite you to finish your shopping trip on a sweet, gourmet note at La Véranda. Part brasserie, part tearoom, the pastries are as beautiful as they are good.
as beautiful as they are delicious.
The majestic Art Deco veranda of this former private mansion is sure to dazzle you! End this gentle stroll with a stroll in the square opposite, at the foot of theSaint-Nicolas church.
It’s a place where magic happens at nightfall as you follow the blue hanging lanterns along the ” Promenade des Arts “.
Nearby, extend this peaceful moment hand-in-hand before heading home and take a (de)tour of this “Latin” district via Place Saint-Nicolas and its picturesque lanes such as Rue des Récollets and Rue des Sayneurs…
