The oyster of the season in Valenciennes!
If you'd like to take a trip to the Normandy coast and enjoy a breath of sea air without leaving Valenciennes, we've come up with THE delicious place to take your oysters. An unusual, seasonal oyster "hut" set up in an old hangar. It's a delight for those addicted to the pleasures of the sea. To top it all off, you enter by car and through the front door! And that's all it takes to make you lose your bearings.
Bernard Brouillet, the owner and his family, welcomes you to this "fisherman?s style" cabin. Bernard's oyster shack and kitchen offers you the chance to take your fresh oysters home with you, or to stay and have them cooked for you? all you have to do is phone in and order at least one hour before picking them up.
In season (from late September to early May), La Bourriche Bleue is open 7 days a week, and the establishment, unusual as it may be, tries to restore a direct relationship between merchants and producers.
Did you know? The ideal time to eat oysters is 3 days after they come out of the water. This is now possible in Valenciennes, thanks to the "bourriche bleue". Traceability, freshness and expertise that you won't find anywhere else.
On the menu, fleshy oysters with a pronounced iodized taste and, above all, the delicate hazelnut flavor for which they are renowned.
Before opening his shack (around 2 years ago), Bernard, originally from Charente, spent a long time scouring the coasts in search of his rare pearl. With his wife and children, he visited more than 30 oyster farmers. One day in Normandy, he had a revelation. He came home with 30kg of the chosen one, and had his friends (all well-informed consumers) taste it; it was unanimously acclaimed!
Today, he remains loyal to the MAUGER family of Normandy oyster farmers, from whom he has selected the St Vaast la Hougue oyster for the pleasure of his taste buds and those of his 400 loyal customers.
On site, La bourriche bleue also offers all-you-can-eat tastings (while stocks last) at reasonable prices, to the delight of anyone craving an iodized snack. Bernard tries to offer one every 15 days, but the schedule is very much dependent on arrivals. In the same way, you can also enjoy cooked oysters on a table d?hôte basis; the "bourriche bleue" can seat up to 18 people at table. It's essential to follow the Facebook page and website to keep abreast of the dates announced there. Not to be missed! The atmosphere is very relaxed.
Bernard is a passionate man who loves to share. At his table, you'll not only enjoy his oysters, but also his anecdotes and advice. Like accompanying your oysters with Imperial bread, made by Côté Pain, the artisan baker on rue de Famars in Valenciennes.
A fine selection of white wines, Pays d?Oc, Vendée and Côtes du Rhône, are served with the oysters. The must-try at his table remains the O.V.N.I (objet viticole non identifié). In short, without doubt the most popular oyster shack in Hainaut.
