Year 1008: the Virgin is said to have protected the town of Valenciennes from the plague by means of a sanitary cordon unrolled along the ramparts. Every September: the Tour brings together thousands of people.

Children's corner

The church in front of you was specially built to house the story of the Holy Cordon, and I’m going to tell you about it:

Once upon a time, there was a town called Valenciennes.
About 1,000 years ago, the town was devastated by a very serious disease: the plague.
The people were very ill and suffered greatly.
One day, just as the people of Valenciennes were losing all hope of overcoming the disease, they saw a beautiful lady descend from the sky.
She was not alone, but accompanied by 4 beautiful angels.
Together, they circled the town with a bright red cord.
Suddenly, they disappeared into the clouds.
A few days after their passage, the sick began to heal and the disease disappeared completely.
This is the miracle of the Holy Cord.

Your turn to play

On the work in front of you, find :
The lady, the angels, the cord and the town of Valenciennes.
