ECONOMY AND EXCELLENCE

Innovative and Sustainable Mobility Automotive, rail, logistics

The Valenciennes region is a key player in the rail sector, accounting for 70% of regional activity in an area where the Hauts-de-France region accounts for 40% of the French rail industry. Around the giant Alstom and an ecosystem of SMEs and subcontractors, Valenciennes federates structures of regional, national and European scope to design the rail transport of tomorrow.

At the same time, the region is a major hub for the automotive industry, with Toyota employing 5,000 people and a dense network of specialized suppliers.

This makes Valenciennes a strategic location for mobility companies, particularly within Transalley, a 34-hectare technology park dedicated to sustainable transport. This site brings together companies, laboratories and schools, offering a variety of infrastructures: incubator, offices, shared spaces, available land and the Gyrovia experimental track. These assets make Valenciennes a driving force for innovation and growth in the mobility of the future.

Digital and university clusters

Digital know-how

Les Rives Créatives de l’Escaut, located in Anzin on a former industrial wasteland, embodies Valenciennes Métropole’s renewal through digital innovation. This center of excellence brings together key players such as Serre Numérique, Nouvelle Forge and the Rubika school, as well as infrastructures dedicated to research, entrepreneurship and training. With its cutting-edge facilities and dynamic ecosystem, this technology hub fosters creation, inclusion and economic development in the region.

1st Training Center in France

Les Rives Créatives de l’Escaut offers an ecosystem of training excellence in digital professions. The Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, RUBIKA, ESAD and POP School offer a wide range of courses, from design and cybersecurity to animation, video games and web development. This dynamic environment trains tomorrow’s talent in key innovation and digital sectors.

Industrial transition and low-carbon logistics

A low-carbon territory in perspective

Valenciennes Métropole supports companies in their low-carbon transition by drawing on its industrial and innovative ecosystem. Committed to decarbonization and green synergies, it encourages the establishment of renewable energy projects and storage solutions, thus affirming its role as a key player in energy change.

Docks Seine Nord

Inaugurated in 2015, the Valenciennes multimodal platform, equipped with the largest gantry crane north of Paris (23 meters), links river, road and rail transport. The first port north of Paris and France’s fifth-largest river terminal, it provides eight weekly links to Antwerp and Rotterdam, facilitating transport for major companies such as PSA, Toyota and La Redoute.
