Eglise Sainte Barbe

18 Rue des Martyrs, 59410 Anzin
The church of Anzin was established as a parish in 1287. Construction of the current building began in 1784. Following the destruction of its steeple during the First World War, it was rebuilt in 1923. On this occasion, it changed its original name from Saint-Jean-Baptiste to Sainte-Barbe, patron saint of miners. It was during construction that the inaugural stones laid in 1784 by Mr. Mathieu, director of the Anzin mines, were found in the foundations.
