VALENCIENNES, AN ATYPICAL URBAN STOPOVER VALESCAUT

Valescaut has been awarded the “Port de plaisance exemplaire” label by the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy. It has been designed as a true “eco-port”: production of renewable energy via photovoltaic panels, installation of a heat pump, recovery of wastewater, involvement of yachtsmen in sorting their waste…

In 2019, the Valescaut marina was awarded the “Gold Anchors” label (2 gold anchors) by the Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA), the British professional federation for marinas. This label, equivalent to the stars awarded in the hotel industry, rewards the excellence of the harbor according to a series of criteria (reception conditions and customer service, quality and diversity of services offered (sanitary facilities, etc.), quality of infrastructures (on the water and on the banks), safety conditions and maintenance of equipment, respect for the environment). It is valid for 3 years.

Why is that good?

Reason #1

A modern, environmentally-friendly marina offering a wide range of services in a secure environment:

  1. Services accessible 24 hours a day with a badge that can be recharged at an automatic terminal: sanitary facilities, water, electricity, laundry, pumping station (black, gray and bilge water).
  2. WiFi hotspots
  3. Harbour master’s office: tourist information and convivial space, with relaxation area
Reason #2

In all, Valescaut has 64 berths for all types of pleasure craft, for short stopovers or year-round mooring.

Reason #3

A port in the city! Close to the city center (20 min. walk): shops, restaurants, services, leisure activities and outings, hospital, etc.
At the heart of a dense network: river, tramway, SNCF train station, freeway, etc.

A river

And its heritage…

Condé-sur-l’Escaut and its past as a canal city: hendrerit id, lorem. Aenean vulputate eleifend tellus. Aenean leo ligula, porttitor eu, consequat vitae, eleifend ac, enim. Aenean vulputate eleifend tellus. Ut id nisl quis enim dignissim sagittis.

The assault on the Scheldt A cycling experience along the river

Called the Un’Escaut loop, the 29 km route starts at the Valenciennes marina and links up with Condé-sur-l’Escaut via the towpath along the Escaut. It forms a loop by joining the voie verte des gueules noires (also known as the Somain Peruwelz bridleway), which has been upgraded by the Département du Nord.
