Cycling in the Bassin Minier is also a great way to practice sustainable, environmentally-friendly tourism. Here, everything encourages you to get on your bike and discover the local heritage.

32 km - 2h15 walk A loop with the Scheldt Must-sees on a round-trip tour

Stroll along the banks of the Escaut River towards the mining subsidence ponds at the Chabaud-Latour site in Condé-sur-l’Escaut. The route promises a wonderful adventure, with the river and the old Somain-Peruwelz horse-riding route as your main guides. Breathe in the fresh air as you experience the best of the cradle of the mining epic.

In the saddle! The“Un’Escaut ” loop starts from the Valenciennes marina.

Assaulting the “Must” of our mining landscapes

The route, called the “Un’Escaut” loop, highlights several elements of the conurbation’s Trame Verte et Bleue (notably the ecological corridors of the Escaut and the cavalier des Gueules Noires), as well as the mining heritage of the towns it passes through: La cité Thiers in Bruay-sur-Escaut, the Joliot Curie park, the Fresnes-sur-Escaut railway station, the mining towns of Condé-sur-l’Escaut…

Whether you’re a cyclist for a day or for ever, it’s now easy to set your sights on the banks of the Escaut and even take the opportunity to discover “the must” of our Unesco-listed mining landscapes.

This well-maintained walk is unanimously acclaimed for its gentle approach to discovery! The itinerary offers numerous possibilities for connecting with the neighborhoods it passes through.

The Bassin Minier bicycle node network

Cycling enthusiasts take note: to the north of Valenciennes, along the Belgian border, a new point-node network awaits you. It’s the first milestone in a future 1,800 km network in the heart of the mining basin.

A map of the network around Chabaud-Latour and Etang d’Amaury is already available free of charge from all partner tourist offices (Valenciennes, Porte du Hainaut, Cœur d’Ostrevent, Douaisis and Pévèle-Carembault).

The new Bassin Minier bicycle network is at the heart of the cross-border project Plaines et vallées du Bassin minier, une terre de pépites. Spearheaded by the Département du Nord, in partnership with the Pas-de-Calais and Wallonia (Belgium), it aims to promote soft mobility within the Bassin minier by linking natural spaces (slag heaps, valleys, plains, etc.) around the region’s emblematic sites.
