Cycling along the Belgian border and take a break in a café rando

The Département du Nord is continuing to develop its bicycle node networks. Here are the first routes of the Bassin minier points-noeuds network, around the Chabaud-Latour site at Condé-sur-l’Escaut. It will be completed in 2026, with over 1,500 km of routes.

In the meantime, come and discover and test the very first cross-border kilometers!

We're a big fan of the points-noeuds network, a fantastic network of all the best and safest cycling routes, like a giant spider's web.

Reseau Point Noeuds vélo (RPN) Your customized itinerary in the Bassin Minier region

Along the way, the landscapes of the Plaines de l’Escaut are revealed, between coal and water. Explore the remarkable wetlands of Chabaud-Latour from the fortified town of Condé-sur-l’Escaut. This Espace Naturel du Nord offers an interlude between nature and history, with its slag heaps, headframe and 230 species of birds to observe. The Etang d’Amaury and the Val de Vergne are just a few kilometers away… Biodiversity hot spots.

How it works

Whether you’re in the sporty or leisure mode, simply create your own itinerary by locating and linking the numbers. Write them down! Add up the kilometers between the dots.

Saddle up! All you have to do is follow the arrows on the green and white signs.

Where can you rent your bike?

Directly from the Base Nature et de Loisirs de Condé-sur-l’Escaut

VTC :
Half-day: €6 per person.
Full day: €10 per person.
A deposit of €200 is required.

Why is that good?

Reason #1

The dot-node principle makes long-distance cycling easier.

Reason #2

The node-point network avoids frequent stops to check a map

Reason #3

With this system, you have the freedom to choose your own itinerary and distance, while being guaranteed to ride the region’s most beautiful cycle routes.

An opportunity to quench your thirst, discover local cuisine or simply enjoy a picnic in a convivial setting.

How else can you live this experience? The Aunelle loop

Another way to cycle along the Belgian border is on the Aunelle loop. A large part of this cycling itinerary follows the border, the river being the natural frontier between France and Belgium. Discover the villages that sit right on the border!
