  • The Coron des 120
This development was incredibly modern for its day. It was submitted for the Universal Exhibition of 1867 focused on the theme of the social economy by the Compagnie des Mines d’Anzin and won a silver medal. The coron (mining housing estate) runs for more than 250 m between Anzin and Valenciennes. It includes 120 houses in six parallel blocks. Each block is comprised of 20 homes built back-to-back. At various points in the estate, it is possible to access the homes by means of a small path running between the gardens, hutches, wells and outside toilets. The whole development is brick built.
