If you are looking for a place to sleep and dine in Valenciennes with lots of charm and character, look no further, Le Grand Duc is the perfect place to stay. Built in a beautifully restored mansion, the home of a former director of the mining company, it has 5 rooms with poetic names. This is a baroque-and-roll style guest house. The whole place and each of the five rooms are tastefully decorated as the owner Philippe Collet is also a professional interior designer and a sculptor. Celebrities (David Bowie and Fanny Ardant to name a few) have stayed there, and singer Babet even premiered a song "the room of always". The Grand Duke is very inspiring because art is present everywhere. The superb decoration is updated regularly by the talented owner. Next to the kitchen there is a giant ever-changing chandelier, which follows the mood and season of its owner. Luxury designer furniture shares space with vintage and fun items from flea markets. The result is captivating and gives its visitors a feeling of being in another world, like in a fairy tale. The entire venue can be booked for private events, and they regularly host cooking classes, concerts, or other festivities.

Le Grand Duc has a spacious and beautiful garden, with some interesting works of art scattered throughout. Our favorite is the red door at the bottom of the garden. The door to nowhere and elsewhere, symbol of a new beginning.

The kitchen is exceptional. Alexis Vache, the house chef, cooks surprisingly refined French cuisine for the happy guests. The dishes are as beautiful as they are delicious.

Lovers of art and gastronomy, Le Grand Duc is a place you will love.
