  • There are several unsuspected ways to get to know the Valenciennes countryside. Navigating the route that crosses our territory from north to south in the direction of Santiago de Compostela, is one of them ... His name? Niederstrasse, an old pilgrimage route from Germany that reached Santiago de Compostela through the Netherlands and France. You will like: You are a group traveling by coach and you want to discover a route of St-Jacques only in a cultural way ... We selected for you the most beautiful stages of this section, either for their landscapes or for their artistic interest.  The chapel St-Nicolas Hamlet Marchipont, small in size but large in heritage. Saint-Jacques is represented in pilgrim attire. Marchipont was a point of passage for pilgrims between Mons and Valenciennes. The bridge over the Aunelle allowed to avoid Quiévrain and Angre too often flooded.  The path passes at the foot of the church of St-Jacques de Marly whose complete renovation was completed in 2001. This church rebuilt in 1837 houses The statues of St Jacques, patron saint of the parish, St Roch and a Virgin with the child registered in the Inventory of protected Arts Objects.  A few kilometers further south, the visit of the Saint-Géry de Maing church, today one of the oldest in Valenciennes allows the discovery of funerary furniture of exceptional quality.
